Things are getting very tense out there for the Republicans. They have a wretched VP candidate stoking the embers of a racial crowd with flat-out lies, even going so far as to call parts of the U.S. "un-American" (those are the areas that are not supporting her, in case you forgot) and a GOP that is not used to losing and cannot understand why it's all-negative all the time lies are no longer working. Every day brings another dismal poll showing the downward spiral of the Rethugs. Great polling website fivethirtyeight.com, gives McCain's current chances at victory a paltry 5.3%. Below is an analogy. Using John McCain as the friend in the pink sweater, and Obama as the new digital signal component, you will see how well his campaign is apparently going:
The Republicans do not seem to understand that we are no longer playing their kind of ball. They're playing T-ball, and we've mastered Wii. Obama is leading because he brings a message of hope in an unhopeful time. The message McCain seems to have is that if you vote for Obama, you vote for a terrorist...or maybe that he will ruin the economy or even DEAR GOD, end the war. The problem for McCain is that his message sucks. If anyone looks shady or suspicious these days, it's McCain.
A while back, Barack Obama took a trip to Greenwood, South Carolina, fulfilling a promise he made to Anne Parks, a Greenwood City Council member he met at a meeting. The story of his trip to Greenwood, and what it meant to him and what happened there is something that bears repeating. This is a video of his return trip to Greenwood and him retelling the story of his first visit there.
Part of the reason that so many of us are so invested in Obama, is that we believe that he will be OUR President, someone that actually cares about us, and what is really going on in the trenches in this country.
Cynicism runs deep with this point of view and I have been lambasted by my few Republican friends, saying, SERIOUSLY, do you think he actually CARES about you?
Well, damn it, I do.
I feel the same way about Al Franken who is running for Senator in my state of Minnesota. I do think the Democratic party is the party of heart and the party where every vote matters and every citizen counts.
It's not like that anymore? How do we know? We have not had a President care a whit about the citizens for eight LONG years. For eight years, we have had a President who bent over for every oil company, big business and neo-con world view and shafted the environment, the workers, the constitution and especially the citizens.
Here's our next President who DOES care about us, telling a story that bears another look. It shows his humanness, his caring and his Obamaness that is so incredibly appealing. This will be the ninth Presidential election I have been lucky enough to participate in. I have NEVER been more excited about casting a ballot as I have for this one.
Please don't miss a minute. Don't waste time worrying about McCain. He is his own worst enemy and he is imploding. We need to give our all to Obama. Donate, volunteer, call, talk, and stay positive.
Republicans will pull out everything they can now to try to beat us. We have to be Barack. Brush it off, let it roll off our backs and stay motivated, involved and concerned. Let the Republicans do the negative stuff.
I AM fired up, and I am ready to go.
